“O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh faints for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary, beholding Your power and glory.” – Psalm 63:1-2
The final light of day reflected off the water, turning gold the dusty brown sandstone and brick buildings. The setting sun did not reduce the humidity plaguing the city, and I could feel the sweat dripping down my back. Despite the heavy sun, people weaved through the streets, determined to make for themselves a job, a life, a legacy. From rich western travelers to eastern dark-skinned maids, the city bustled with culture and diversity.
Today, 54 percent of today’s world population live in cities, according to the United Nations. Immigrants often bring with them their cultural backgrounds, religion, and values, creating a beautiful and unique patchwork for each city. However, many of these communities remain unexposed to the Gospel.
This summer, God has opened an opportunity for me to be a part of His mission to the unreached. After doing ministry from Los Angeles to Nairobi and Beirut, I am remaining in the United States. After much prayer, I believe God has led me to partner with International Project, an organization who focuses on unreached people groups in urban areas.
As one of their interns, I will stay in NYC for seven weeks from May 26-July 22 focusing on three main aspects of urban ministry: spiritual growth, service, and evangelism. Spiritual growth includes prayer walks through neighborhoods and multiple fasts throughout the summer. Service involves assisting the organization, likely in communications and media and/or short-term mission leadership. For evangelism, I will be assigned a people group to work and live alongside.
Of course, no ministry can be undertaken alone, and I would like to ask for support in two ways. First, please pray that God will provide a vision for what He wants to be accomplished this summer and that He would faithfully fulfill that through our team. I will send out regular prayer letters and updates through email and on my social media, so please connect with me with the links provided in the sidebar.
The second way to support me is financially. The total on-field cost for seven weeks is $3,500.00 and will cover housing, transportation, and most of my meals. Details on how to donate online or by mail are also in the sidebar. Despite this large goal, God has repeatedly proven His faithfulness in even the smallest donations.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing God move in NYC this summer!
